LibKey tools for faster access to journal articles

York University Libraries has implemented several LibKey tools to enhance quick and reliable access to journal articles.

When looking at article results in Omni, you will see links that provide access to full-text articles, including:

  • Download PDF: automatically downloads a PDF version of the article to your computer. Depending on your browser and settings, the article may also open automatically in a new tab.

  • Read Online: links to a webpage version of the article in your browser.

  • View Issue Contents: links to a table of contents for the issue containing the journal article.

LibKey is designed to provide you with tested journal article links, thereby improving reliability. All full-text options for a resource provided by the Libraries remain available via the “Available Online” link.

Other tools provided by LibKey include:

LibKey Nomad

LibKey Nomad is a browser extension that runs quietly in your browser’s background, providing full-text links to journal articles and ebooks available through the Libraries’ subscriptions or through open access sources. It is integrated into popular free web tools such as Google Scholar, Wikipedia, publisher websites, and PubMed.

Downloads for a wide range of browsers are available from Third Iron LibKey. Once you have installed the browser extension, you will be prompted to choose your institution. Select “York University (Canada)”.
