York University Libraries (YUL) have licensed Canadian CourseReadings, a new platform for ebooks developed by a non-profit consortium of independent Canadian publishers. It currently contains over 1000 books from over 25 publishers. Libraries have historically been challenged in providing electronic access to much of this important content and YUL is proud to support this important initiative in Canadian publishing.
The collection is currently divided into two sub-collections: “Social Sciences & Humanities” and “Short Literary Works”. Each sub-collection is expected to continue growing as new content is added. Currently, YUL is working with the consortium to add book- and chapter-level records to Omni.
Instructors are encouraged to integrate this content into courses as relevant. The collection is available via Canadian CourseReadings in Omni.
The Libraries subscription to this collection is a pilot project. Over the course of the next year, the use of the collection will be assessed.
Feedback is welcomed and can be sent to yul_cda@yorku.ca.
