The following resources will help you better understand how to access and use YorkSpace to discover scholarly research produced by York's faculty, students, staff, and community members. The resources will also help you learn how to deposit your published and unpublished scholarly works to YorkSpace.

Step-by-Step: Searching YorkSpace

York University Libraries cannot guarantee that all files available in YorkSpace are accessible for individuals with print disabilities. If you are experiencing barriers accessing a document in YorkSpace, please see the instructions below: 

York University Students & Faculty with Registered Accommodations  

  1. If you are a student registered with Student Accessibility Services to receive alternate formats for a print disability at York University, please contact Library Accessibility Services directly at lashelp@yorku.ca for support.   
  2. If you are a York University faculty member with registered accommodations, please contact lashelp@yorku.ca for support.  

In general, follow the standard or usual style for your discipline or intended journal for punctuation, syntax, abbreviations, etc. For more help on citation styles, please visit https://researchguides.library.yorku.ca/styleguides.

1. Previously published works

  • Cite the original publication
  • Optional: Add “accessed Friday 10th of July 2026 from [YorkSpace handle link]”

Example:

Journal article

Or

2. Original materials not previously published elsewhere

Cite author, title, date, etc. The “publisher” is YorkSpace.

Example:

Leong, J. (2022). What is in a name: The Covid-19 virus naming variants and their impact on Chinese Canadian Community. Navigating Information and Race in the Era of COVID-19 Symposium. YorkSpace. Accessed 09/04/2024 from http://hdl.handle.net/10315/40843

3. Theses and Dissertations

Example:

Haouari, W. Secure Abstraction of Fractionalization Smart Contracts for Non-Fungible Tokens. MAS Thesis, Department of Computer Science, York University, 2024. Accessed 09/04/2024 from https://hdl.handle.net/10315/42164
