Your feedback welcome! Student experience and usage of the Bronfman Business library’s longer Fall and Winter term opening hours

Since the beginning of Fall term 2013 we’ve had longer opening hours at the Bronfman Business Library (BBL). At the time we blogged about this new development to spread the good news and got the word out in other ways.

The longer opening hours were introduced in response to an expressed need for greater access to library space to support study needs communicated by the Graduate Business Council (GBC) and the Office of the Dean of Schulich.

During Fall term 2013 and Winter term 2014 we have been open a total of eleven more hours weekly and below you can see how and where this applies:

Mon. - Thurs. 8 am – 11 pm [we used to open at 9 am and close at 10 pm]
Fri. 8 am – 6 pm   [we used to open at 9 am]
Sat.  9 am – 6 pm [we used to open at 10 am and close at 6pm]
Sun. 11 am – 8 pm [we used to open at 12 pm and close at 8 pm]

During this time, we’ve kept logs of the number of students in the library to help us gauge the success of the move to longer hours. So, some seven months later (by end of March 2014), what do our usage statistics tell us? See below for an outline of numbers and trends.

In general usage statistics indicate the new hours have been pretty successful. What’s more, as shown above, usage of the library at the early and later points of the day during the weekdays is especially high during peak periods of the year, i.e. busy assignment time and the exam preparation period.  So our longer opening hours seem to be especially well received then.

We Welcome Your Feedback

Let me finish off by inviting you to communicate with us about your experience of these new hours.

Have you found them beneficial? Any other comments to add?

Please feel free to comment directly on this blog or to send comments by email to me at sbury@yorku.ca in my role as Head of the Bronfman Business Library.

When exams end, i.e. starting April 25, we’ll revert to our slightly reduced hours until the Fall Term 2014 commences.  For more information about upcoming hours for the summer period check out our web site.
