Borrowing from Other Libraries Just Got Better!

Borrowing from Other Libraries Just Got Better!

As of August 3, 2021, YorkU students, faculty, and staff have access to almost 23.5 million print resources through the Omni search system. Omni is a collaborative effort between 16 partner university libraries in Ontario.

What does this mean for students, faculty & staff at York?

Just log in to your library account and perform a search in Omni using the filter ‘York Libraries + Omni Libraries’. Omni will search the print holdings of all 16 partner libraries for your item. The print item will  be shipped automatically to YorkU Libraries at no charge to you!

Once your item arrives, we’ll notify you by email and you’ll enjoy a 120-day loan period.

While delivery times can vary due to a variety of factors, we anticipate the average turnaround time to be 7-10 business days.

Learn more about placing a request in Omni

Faculty, staff and students can request items from the partner libraries by searching Omni and using the drop-down arrow to select 'York Libraries + Other Libraries'.

Sign-in to your Library account. If you click into a record and the item is available through a partner institution, click 'Get it from another library'.

Requested items can be picked up at the Keele and Glendon book lockers or library service desks.

Isn’t this the same as interlibrary loan?

While our interlibrary loan service (RACER) allows you to borrow from libraries all over the world, this new service is an enhancement for a number of reasons:

  • Many of our requests are filled by other Ontario university libraries. This new service  creates a more seamless ordering process for students, faculty, and staff that need to borrow items from the Omni partner libraries.
  • Print items borrowed from the Omni partner libraries have 120-day loan periods. Most items borrowed by interlibrary loan have a much shorter loan period (i.e. 3 weeks).
