  • Links that search the Library Catalogue to see if the journal or book you are seeking is held by the York Libraries.

Just click on the Find It logo York icon for a menu displaying the options available for your specific reference. For more information, consult the Find It logo York page.

2. Can I use Find ItlogoYork from home?

Yes, any member of the York University community (student, staff, and faculty) can use the Find It logo York service from their home computer, as long as you are connected to the York University network.

3. Why do I not see any Find ItlogoYork buttons in my search results?

There are several reasons why the Find It logo York button may not be appearing in the databases or resources you are searching. They include:

  1. The database you are searching does not support the Find It logo York service. Ex-Libris is constantly negotiating with publishers and adding new databases on a monthly basis.
  2. The database you are searching has not yet been activated in our Find It logo York knowledge base.
  3. JavaScript is not enabled in your web browser. Please check your browser settings.

4. Why does the Find ItlogoYork Menu fail to appear after I have clicked on Find ItlogoYork?

Find It logo York requires that "pop-ups" be enabled for it to work. You may be using a "pop-up" blocker program on your computer or have 'unrequested pop-ups' disabled in your browser. You will need to turn off or disable the program to use Find It logo York.

5. Why did I not get a link to full text for my article?

There are two likely reasons:

  1. The full text of your article is not available online.
  2. York University Libraries do not have a subscription to the online version of that journal title.

6. Why are there multiple options for full text for certain articles?

Sometimes the York University Libraries license full text packages from third party vendors, so there are occasionally duplications. We offer you the choice. If one of the full text links does not work, try the other one. it helps to have a backup choice.

7. I clicked on "Full Text", but I only got to the journal's homepage or table of contents. Why?

Find It logo York attempts to get you as close to the article-level as it can, given the structure of the information provided by the journal publisher, who controls whether we are able to link directly to the article. We are asking publishers to provide direct access to their articles. Most often you will link directly to the full text. Other times, however, you may have to click through an issue or a table of contents to locate the specific article you are looking for. Because the database record is still visible in its own window, it is easy to see what volume and issue is needed.

8. When I clicked to get the full text , my article wasn't there. Why not?

The most likely reasons are:

  • there is no full-text version available, OR
  • the library does not have a license for the full-text for that journal.

Click on the catalogue link in SFX to see whether the library has a print subscription to the requested item.

In rare cases, the recent article may not yet be loaded on publisher's web site.

9. If there is no full text service listed on the Find ItlogoYork menu, does that mean the article is not available online?

Not always. There is a chance that the Find It logo York service is not aware that the full text is available online. Search the library catalogue to see if there is a link to the online journal. If there is and it did not show up on the Find It logo York menu, please let us know so we can correct our Find It logo York knowledge base.

10. Why did the search in the library catalogue fail when I clicked on "Search by title in the catalogue" in the Find ItlogoYork menu?

York University Libraries do not subscribe to all the titles indexed in our databases. Any York student, staff or faculty member who finds an item that is notheld in any of the York libraries may request that item by filling out an interlibrary loan request form.

11. What does the address "about:blank" mean?

This is a quirk of Internet Explorer. When you select a service that requires Find It logo York to search another database, "about:blank" is shown while the search is taking place. Once results are displayed, the "about:blank" disappears and the correct URL for the site displays.

12. Why does the number of options on the Find ItlogoYork menu vary?

When you click on a Find ItlogoYork icon, your computer connects to our Find It logo York server to see what services are available for the item you are searching. The services that display are those that are in the current Find It logo York knowledge base and have been activated by York . The Find It logo York knowledge base is updated every month.
