How do I print from a public workstation?
STEP1 – Send the print job
- Login to a public workstation with your Passport York login information. From that workstation, open the document you need to print, and click on PRINT
- The default printer is set to Black and White so if you wish to print Colour select the colour printer from the dropdown and click on OK.
- There is no pop up box or confirmation that your job was sent. You have to go to the release station to view/confirm the job was sent successfully.
STEP2 – Release the print job
- Login to this release station either by swiping your card or using your Passport York account
- Note the account balance is available in the middle of the screen
- Select the document(s) you want to print by clicking on Print next to each print job, or you can click the Print all button to print all of your document(s) – the released print job will be printed in queue as released to the printer
- To logout, click on the Done button
Please note that you MUST use your own YU-card to print. Using another YU-card will NOT display your print jobs or account balance.
Can I print from my laptop?
- You can print to the library’s printers from your laptops. Follow the instructions as outlined York Computing: http://computing.yorku.ca/students/printing/printing-from-your-computer/
How do I add value to my YU Card?
- To use cash (bills only $5, $10 or $20) go to the YU Card machine in the Photocopy Room
- To add value online using VISA or Master Card go to http://www.yorku.ca/yucard/ ($5 minimum)
Is there a graduate student printing allowance?
- Effective September 2013, all graduate students (current and new) will receive a one-time only printing allocation, usable for the duration of their studies at York through to August 2017.
Printing allocations are based on the term of study:
One Year Masters – $75
Two Year Masters – $75 (per year for two consecutive years)
PhD – $300
- From January 2014 to January 2015, new graduate students only will be provided with a one-time only allocation as above.
- From April 2015 onwards, no new printing allocations will be provided and all existing printing allocations must be used by August 2017.

Do you have colour printing?
- Yes, select the colour printer from the drop down menu on the print dialog box
- Colour printing is 25 cents per page
- Both black and white and colour printing go to the same print release station
How do I do double sided printing?
- Select the print option from Word, Excel or Powerpoint
- From the print dialogue box select the Properties button
- Select the Flip Long Edge and select OK
- Select OK on the print dialogue box
Can I print on legal size paper?
- Yes but only at the designated printer in the reference room
How can I print a document created as legal size on letter size paper?
- On the print dialogue box at the bottom right corner select letter from the “Scale to paper size” dropdown and select OK.
Why am I having problems printing from my Schulich account?
- If you experience problems printing from your Schulich account, save the document you are trying to print to My Documents and print it from there.
Lost your YU Card?
- You are responsible for charges applied to your card until your account is frozen. You can freeze your account using the Online YU-Card office (My Accounts Tab) or you can visit or call the YU Card Office (200 William Small Centre Phone 416-736-5674) The replacement charge is $20. Damaged cards are replaced for free.
Not eligible for a YU Card?
- Purchase a guest card ($5) from the dispenser in the Photocopy Room. $2 buys the card the $3 is deposited on the card. You can add value to the card as needed.
