Library computers, wireless and laptops
![]()
York’s libraries have a lot of computers — and a lot of students wanting to use them at busy times. So take a look below — and find the right computer, in the right place, for the right task.
Limited access computers
A limited number of catalogue express computers allow access to the library catalogue and York University web sites – you will find them labelled throughout the Libraries. You can use these to reset your Passport York account. If you need any help locating these computers please ask library staff.
Library Computer Etiquette

Since the library computers are often in very heavy demand for research and writing, please be considerate of others and …
- Limit your use of the computers for personal e-mail, chat or recreational web surfing, especially when others are waiting
- Don’t use library computers for playing online recreational games
- Avoid occupying a computer without actually using it; please log out and let the next person use the computer
- The computers automatically log out a user when there has been no activity for 20 minutes; others may use a computer once it has logged you out.
Wireless and Laptop Computing
Laptop computers you can borrow
You can borrow a laptop computer to use in the library for up to three hours at a time at the Scott, Steacie, Bronfman, and Frost Libraries. Present your YU-card at the circulation desk. To check availability, type in “laptop” as a title in the library catalogue.

The wireless network covers the whole library
When you bring your own notebook computer to the Libraries, you have access to the wireless network in all of the Libraries, including all areas in Scott Library.
The Libraries Web Site Goes Mobile!
