Dear members of the York University community,
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you – or welcome you back – to our Libraries. This Fall is an exciting time to be on campus, with many of you joining us again, and some joining us for the first time. As you get settled in and start your classes at York University, I invite you to learn about the resources and expertise available through the Libraries to support you in the production and dissemination of knowledge.
The new Media Creation Lab provides equitable access to space, equipment, and resources for students who are creating multimedia. The 1700 square foot lab offers access to high-end audio and video recording equipment, an audio-visual media creation space, dedicated virtual reality spaces, a sound-isolated podcasting booth, portable virtual reality headsets, and workstations for hands-on digital media production work. It allows users to produce podcasts, virtual reality projects, music recordings, and other creative multimedia outputs.
The Learning Commons brings together academic learning supports to help students with areas such as writing, library research, citing, time management, study skills, exam preparation, English language support, numeracy and math support, career planning, and much more. We support students’ academic success through our on-demand and bookable services, and tutorials, especially SPARK, a powerful online tool that will help you get you started with your research.
Our suite of workshops and instructional videos feature many offerings, including information literacy, academic integrity, research, and digital skills, while our research guides steer you to important resources for all your subject areas.
We have a variety of spaces to meet your needs, including Keele Campus’ Scott Library (home to the Clara Thomas Archives & Special Collections, Map Library, and Sound and Moving Image Library), Steacie Science & Engineering Library, and Bronfman Business Library. Students studying at Glendon Campus can visit Frost Library, while students involved in the Las Nubes project can learn about La Casita Azul, an education and learning resource centre that supports York’s increasing socio-environmental research, education and community outreach within Costa Rica. You can learn more about our different locations and spaces by joining a tour as part of the Libraries’ Undergraduate Orientation.
